While visiting with my parents, I found this really great book sitting on their end table. Eat This, Not That, by David Zinczenko. It’s the Supermarket’s Survival Guide! I was skimming through this book and read about the 20 worst foods of 2009, the 20 unhealthiest drinks, 16 secrets restaurants don’t want us to know, 8 foods we should eat every day, and by swapping an unhealthy food for a healthier one, we could lose 10, 20 or 30 pounds! It’s an easy read and the illustrations are great--they’re REAL pictures.
Examples from the book:
At McDonald’s, an Egg McMuffin® is actually a healthy choice, with just 300 calories. (The Hotcakes pack more than double that amount!)
In the freezer section of your local supermarket, a turkey pot pie from Swanson’s has 610 fewer calories than a turkey pot pie from Pepperidge Farms.
You can purchase Eat This, Not That for $11.99 at Amazon, and I’m sure you can purchase it at your local bookstore. It’s a great book to get you on track to eating healthy. I’ve always been big on eating healthy and this book taught me how to eat EVEN better, especially in restaurants! It even educated me on those tricky words, too. You know, less sodium, less fat, fat-free, blah, blah. They may SOUND real healthy, but in fact they could be WORSE!
I think EVERY household should have this book on its shelf. It is FULL of valuable information to help the average family eat healthy but tasty food. And it’s food we normally eat, like cereal, bread, bagels, oatmeal, brownie mix, hamburgers, hotdogs, and cookies; so you won’t feel like you are dieting. The “D” word is something I avoid, because I don’t think it works. Eating healthy WORKS. I know, because I do IT. It’s tried and true. So, give Eat This, Not That a try, what can it hurt? And it could be the best thing you do all year!
